2012 Potluck on the Point

What a Great Night We Had

A great group came out Saturday, August 4th for the Fourth Annual Potluck on the Point.

Attendees spent the evening visiting with their neighbors while enjoying great food.  It was really fun especially the ability to socialize with those you already knew as well as having the chance to make new acquaintances.

Mother Nature provided us perhaps the nicest day of the summer.  Visit our photo album to get a little taste of the event.    We plan to continue the Potluck; we have selected the first Saturday in August every year. So mark your calendar for August 3rd, 2013 and plan on a fun evening.

Devils Lake Revivial

Including a Two-Ton Creature

The Devils Lake Revival took place Saturday August 4th from 10-2pm at Regatta Grounds. The event included: educational booths, a variety of kids activities, pontoon boat tours, stand up paddle board lessons/demos, kayak demos/tours, live music, food, veggie and seafood options available, prizes, including a kayak, in water rescue demonstration, and a beach safety presentation.

Also part of this year’s event was the unveiling of a two-ton, 13-foot-high sculpture of a lake creature. Sculptors Heidi Erickson and Doug Kroger spent more than two years crafting the towering metal sculpture. It is eighteen feet long, and made from more than 90 percent recycled metal and rubber retread material.  Take a moment and visit the creature, it’s quite a sight.

Coffee On The Point

Summer has passed and life on the lake is running at a little slower pace.  It is a little rarer to wave at a friend zooming by in their boat or engage in a neighborly conversation during that morning walk.  With that in mind, we thought that we would invite you to, “Coffee on the Point”.

Nothing fancy just stop by on Sunday October 30th between 10:00am and noon for a cup of coffee and a sweet treat and say hello to a few of your neighbors.   We have had so much fun with Potluck on the Point that a little get together a few times during the year didn’t seem like such a bad idea.  The coffee will be at Mitch and Dana Moore’s; the A-frame at 2929 NE Loop Drive on Sand Point. Come on by!

21st Annual Lincoln City Sprint Triathlon is Sept. 11

From Oregon Coast Today

There are still spaces left in the 21st annual Lincoln City Sprint Triathlon, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at Regatta Park on Devils Lake.

The event begins with a .75K lake swim, followed by a 15.5K bike ride around Devils Lake, and finishes with a 5K out-and-back run. Individuals and two-person or three-person teams are invited to participate.

“This race is short enough for beginners, and at the same time challenging for the more seasoned triathlete,” Gail Kimberling, community center director, said.

Kimberling added Regatta Park is a wonderful venue for the race. “Devils Lake is ideal for the swim, and while the bike leg is a little shorter than other sprint events the topography and the course itself makes it challenging. The run is also tricky, with its numerous short hills,” she said.

Wet suits are recommended for the swim, and bicycle helmets are required. Volunteers are located at the park and throughout the different courses to provide directions and aid participants.

Regatta Grounds is the perfect venue for spectators, as well. The start and finish, and both transitions (swim-to-bike and bike-to-run), are located in the parking area near the boat ramp. Eclectic Edge LLC of Eugene is providing announcing and timing services.

All athletes will receive a long-sleeved technical T-shirt, swim cap, refreshments, and a great race. Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners and the top three finishers in each age group.

Until Sept. 10, fees are $40 for individuals, $55 for two-person teams, and $65 for three-person teams. Day of race fees are $45 (individuals), $60 (two-person teams) and $75 (three-person teams).

Devils Lake Revival

Carp diem!

This is a terrific article on the Devils Lake Revival and the history that it is trying to recreate. Visit our photo gallery on the Devils Lake Revival for photos of the event.

Devils Lake seizes on its history
By Niki Price • Oregon Coast TODAY

One might be surprised to see the word “devil” and “revival” on the same poster. The fellow with the horns and the tail isn’t usually invited to the old-time church meetings beneath the big tent. But these posters are referring a different kind of devil: the monsters that, according to Native American legend, once lived in Lincoln City’s freshwater lake. The Devils Lake Revival, then, is the resurrection of the annual summer party that was once held on its shores.

That community celebration, a day full of aquatic fun for the whole family, will be held this Saturday, Aug. 27, at Regatta Grounds Park. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., lake lovers can ride sailboats, take pontoon boat tours, learn to kayak and stand-up paddleboard, and listen to music by the Schooner Creek String Band. Those who add their addresses to the Devils Lake Water Improvement District’s e-mail list will be eligible for a raft of prizes including hotel stays, restaurant meals and even your very own, fully-equipped kayak. A dozen local agencies will be staffing booths, offering information on conservation activities throughout the region.

All the activities at the Devils Lake Revival will be free, except for the food. The Business for Excellence in Youth committee will be there, selling snacks and lunches to benefit the Backpack Program. Prize sponsors include the ‘D’ Sands Condominium Motel, the Historic Anchor Inn and Mo’ Continue reading

Yet Another Great Potluck

A Beautiful Day and a Great Time

We topped our attendance this year with some seventy odd residents of Devils Lake who came out Saturday, August 6th for the Third Annual Potluck on the Point.

Attendees spent the evening visiting with their neighbors while enjoying great food.  It was really fun especially the ability to socialize with those you already knew as well as having the chance to make new acquaintances.   Every shore of the lake was represented!

Mother Nature provided us a wonderful batch of sunny weather.  Visit our photo album to get a little taste of the event.    We plan to continue the Potluck; we have selected the first Saturday in August every year. So mark your calendar for August 4th, 2012 and plan on a fun evening.

We’re still trying to locate the owner of a few serving utensils so take a look at this photo and email me if you’re the owner of anything shown. If you have any ideas on more ways we can get our community together to enjoy our mutual company let us know and we’ll do what we can to promote it.
