The Devils Lake Creature needs your help! Local organization Let There Be Arts has partnered with local artist Heidi Erickson in her efforts to raise the necessary funds to complete the Regatta Grounds Park Devil’s Lake Creature as she now envisions it. LTBA is a non-profit organization on the Central Oregon Coast whose mission is to develop and support programs that introduce and encourage the artistic talents, creativity, appreciation and physical expression of our students and community. From Let There Be Arts Lake Creature
Heidi Erickson was commissioned by the City of Lincoln City to create a sculpture that would be placed at the entrance to Regatta Park on the west side of Devil’s Lake. This park is visited by thousands of local and visiting children every year and is well known by the local community for its wonderful playground area, and beautiful lakeside setting. As legend has it, Devil’s Lake is home to it’s own mysterious lake creature.
Because legendary lake creatures live in dreams, imaginations and wonderment of the adventurous everywhere, it was perfectly fitting that Lincoln City’s lake creature come out of hiding and appear in the form of the commissioned sculpture for Regatta Park.
Heidi has been working on the sculpture for a year, and, as the project developed, due to the scale, complexity and scope of the undertaking, it became clear that the $20,000 originally contracted for the sculpture would not be enough. The Devil’s Lake Creature sculpture is scheduled for installation in the spring of 2012, and without additional funding, the project is at risk of falling short of its full potential… this is why we are asking for your personal and financial support.
What began as a concept for a public art piece has grown into something much more exciting and profound. Heidi Erickson, and Let There Be Arts have formed an exciting partnership. Let There Be Arts is a non-profit organization on the Central Oregon Coast whose mission is to develop and support programs that introduce and encourage the artistic talents, creativity, appreciation and physical expression of children and the community. A partnership with LTBA provides a tax-deductible conduit through which contributions can be received while simultaneously expanding their own profile as a successful and effective advocate for the arts in our community. LTBA and Heidi have already begun a dialogue on the myriad of ways that this collaboration would provide a compelling and on-going resource to extend the LTBA mission in providing much needed access to the arts, and arts education for children in the Lincoln County School District.
Within this partnership, our responsibilities are:
- Artist will raise the necessary funds, $40,000, and complete the Devil’s Lake Creature Sculpture. The Artist will also participate in the Devil’s Lake Creature children’s educational programs designed and implemented by LTBA.
- Let There Be Arts will ensure that the contributions raised are charitable and tax deductible. They will then leverage the Devil’s Lake Creature sculpture as an arts educational outreach to the children in the Lincoln County School District.
- City of Lincoln City will own, install, and maintain the Devil’s Lake Creature sculpture.
The finished sculpture will also serve as a lasting monument to Lincoln City’s community values: fellowship, green culture and the exploration of the human spirit through art. In partnership with Let There Be Arts, the process and creation of this unique work will serve as a dynamic model of the aesthetic insights and challenges art and its creation can provide. Moreover, the lasting legacy of this work will be to delight, inform and challenge future generations. By contributing to this project, you will not only assure the completion of this powerful Devil’s Lake Creature, but will also contribute to the continuing educational experiences in art for hundreds of children for years to come.
